SOMNIA-SPECIFIC QUESTIONS
1. Dreams are how Sleep chooses you. What might draw your character into Somnia— a wound, a wish, a weakness? Would they follow the dream, or run from it?
2. Somnia is a slow unraveling—of worlds, and of selves. How does your character respond to fear, transformation, and losing control? Do they fight, adapt, collapse?
3. Connection is the only constant. What kind of bonds does your character form— fast and burning, slow and wary, deep and desperate? How might that shape their time in this world?
4. What are two major forces in your character’s personality that are often in conflict? (Ex: logic vs emotion, power vs guilt, obedience vs rage, etc.)

note: Resurrection at 19 elaborates more on events in the final chapter of Catastrophe at 16, where Guren is still 16, so for my top level on the TDM I used the title that won't confuse as to his current canon point's age.

SOMNIA-SPECIFIC QUESTIONS
1. Dreams are how Sleep chooses you. What might draw your character into Somnia— a wound, a wish, a weakness? Would they follow the dream, or run from it?
Guren is a character who just knowingly caused the end of the world (the apocalypse) in order to revive his friends. He's just learned that they only have ten years to live and will be annihilated if they ever learn they were revived after death in the first place. He's wrestling with the guilt of causing the deaths of most of the human population, but is still constantly searching for a way to keep his friends alive. With this in mind, dreams and wishes of his friends being alive, and especially his ability to stay by their side and see their smiling faces, is what he wants the most. Guren is someone who will do whatever it takes, even to his own detriment, to make sure that they can live their lives, so he will follow this dream without hesitation. Even if it means dipping further into his own guilt.
2. Somnia is a slow unraveling—of worlds, and of selves. How does your character respond to fear, transformation, and losing control? Do they fight, adapt, collapse?
He clings to his humanity with intense willpower and determination. He's got not just one, but two demons inside of him (merged), with the words that "there was always a demon in his heart" before that point— which ironically means that his humanity has been frayed from the start. Still, Guren fights against demon possession regularly as part of canon, and ends up pushing himself so far that he has just entered a state one step before becoming a full demon himself: namanari, a half-human and half-demon that's slowly developing a twisted, darker second personality by merging his own with his demon's. This is so new that he's still only got the one personality and some terrible urges urged on by his contracted demon, but it means that Guren constantly pushes that barrier between his humanity and becoming a monster, all for his selfish desires of keeping his friends alive. He tries to have his cake and eat it too, and though he will white-knuckle cling to whatever shreds of humanity remain inside of him, he risks drowning in his own power and quests more each day.
3. Connection is the only constant. What kind of bonds does your character form— fast and burning, slow and wary, deep and desperate? How might that shape their time in this world?
Bonds and connection are such a major part of Guren's character; he always searches for strength, and so tries to avoid making friends or feeling soft about anyone else, but he tends to give in easily. His heart is swayed by the presence of others, he feels fond and warm about the people he grows close to, and then that turns into a fierce protectiveness and a cherishing that goes beyond normal. His bonds become so personal and intense to him that he calls them family, and will go to any length to keep them safe and happy, even if it means adding more guilt and suffering to his own shoulders in the process. In other words, he's a huge softie, so try as he might to isolate himself, act rude or brush people off, he makes connections easily and intensely. Of course, he does try to handle things alone, even when he has these deep friendships, so his time here is going to be interesting. He's going to try to shoulder too much on his own, keep things to himself, and hide when he's suffering— tethers are going to be formed easily, but it's going to require persistence on the part of others to make sure he doesn't try to carry everything on his own. For a character who's so determined to be strong, his entire handling of the setting and the things this world will throw at him is going to entirely depend on the people who end up caring about him.
4. What are two major forces in your character’s personality that are often in conflict? (Ex: logic vs emotion, power vs guilt, obedience vs rage, etc.)
The desire for strength versus his love for his friends. Guren knows that the world is a cold and cruel place, and logically, he knows that he makes himself weaker by forming bonds with others. There are countless times where he thinks to himself about how he should stop caring, abandon those around him, and become stronger. That he wants to catch up to Mahiru (his crush who is now dead and his demon, and who has no problem abandoning people for power), but that he's too weak. No matter how much this logic hammers into his brain, he can't turn off his big soft heart. He struggles to find a middleground between being reckless for the sake of saving others, and being logical in order to make sure the few that he does have close to him don't get hurt in the process. Guilt is huge with him, as is finding the right balance of survival in a world hurtling towards (and now at) apocalypse, and still having a meaning to living in it. In his opinion, if he only focuses on survival to the point of throwing out those dear to him, then what point is there to living at all?

Why does this Vessel type feel appropriate for your character?
- Guren constantly fights to keep his humanity in canon, despite becoming less and less human anyway. He's currently so entrenched in his quest for power (to keep his friends safe) that he's only half-human now, half-demon, meaning that his personality will slowly split into two over time as he gets closer to becoming fully a demon and losing his humanity. Because of all of this, I think it would be even more interesting to choose the Vessel that focuses on clinging to humanity. While there were so many options I could have gone with, Runecaster in particular resonates really well with the sort of magic he was raised learning from a young age before he even had to deal with demons or vampires. I'm also very interested in playing with the weaknesses of Runecaster in particular, since Guren is susceptible to overworking himself and trying to hold it back. I think it will help him be forced further into engaging with the setting and create a lot of opportunity for CR, player plots, and exploring his character.
